An undiscovered gem from New Zealand

Mar 31, 2008 2 Comments by

Just received a very odd game from NZ, via eBay (that’s where the pics from). It’s called The International Cricket Series, which according to the box is “easy to play family fun” and dates around 1986.

It comes with some really lovely images and must have taken someone both a lot of time to develop AND a lot of money. The production from first look is really exceptional.

Judging by the box cover it looks like it might have been a promo item for a house company as there are adds for “solid vinyl weather board” on the cover.

While there are no individual player cards there are types of bowlers, types of batsman and a mechanism of different dice and cards to determine the outcome.

Will take some photos over the weekend and post them and hopeful do, at the least, a capsule review.

It’s not a great game from a play point of view, but the production is something else. Those chunky players must have cost a bomb to make and the cards and other bits and pieces are top notch!

Just found (!) a copy of this dumped outside my garage. Not sure I’ll ever play it, but you never know if some avid cricket board game collector will snap it up.
