A 20/20 cricket board game?
The Indian Premier League started this weekend and it’s great to see massive crowds enjoying the oddly named Kolkata Knight Riders open up some cans of industrial whoop A on anyone who comes near them.
It struck me that this is probably the first time there is an opportunity to “card” a complete season of a cricket competition that may have a wide impact.
Therefore I am abandoning all else for a week or so to explore a super fast to develop 20/20 game (it’ll be a relief after years of trying to complete my Test match version of Replay Cricket).
I plan to use dice, a Stumpz or Wicketz style board, and strategy cards to let people play “SUPER SHOTS”, do some miracle fielding, and so on.
With only 40 overs to play with, I’m aiming at something that can be played in an hour or hour and a half at most. Will probably base it on last year’s KFC Twenty20 as there are only a few teams in the Australian comp. Then if all works out I’ll try to do an IPL version.
The player cards will not be overly detailed, and painfully accurate stats will take a back seat to playability and fun.
Let see how this goes :-)
Thoughts appreciated!
Oh, and as an aside…here’s a little game I picked up last year which comes from Australia in the 80s. Really strange title and it really is about 20 over cricket!
